Obituary

Roxine Carter, 88, of the Sulphur Springs Community, died Monday, January 6, 2020, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Born December 4, 1931, at Hampton, Calhoun County, Arkansas; she was the daughter of the late Travis Bradford Tomlinson and Jessie Elizabeth (Hines) Tomlinson James. Roxine was reared and educated in Hampton and graduated there in 1950.

She moved to Pine Bluff in 1950 and worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for a few years. Roxine married Lee Mitchell Carter, Jr. on August 14, 1953 at Cornerstone, Jefferson County, Arkansas; her husband died June 7, 1998 at home.

Roxine was a faithful Christian and currently a faithful member at Shannon Road Baptist Church. She had previously been a member at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church for 56+ years. Even though she couldn’t stand much, she loved to sing in the choir and she loved children, having worked in the church nursery for over 32 + years.

Roxine had been a member of the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary 21+ years since her husband died in 1998. Being a volunteer at the hospital was part of her life, she had volunteered over 11,700 hours, which is the most any volunteer has ever volunteered at the hospital. She truly missed not going to the hospital to volunteer when she was sick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother – Kenneth Wayne Tomlinson, Sr. and sister – Berta Frances Tomlinson.

Survivors include her four sons: Mitch Carter and wife Cathy of Little Rock, Tommy Carter of the home, Brad Carter and wife Mary of Sheridan and Alan Carter of Pine Bluff. Four grandchildren: Linda Carter, Greg Carter and wife Andrea, Dexter Carter all of Little Rock and Braydon Carter of Sheridan. Niece – Cindy (Tomlinson) Mitchell of Hampton, Arkansas and nephew – Joey Carter of Belzoni, Mississippi.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale South Funeral Home.

Funeral will be on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Fuller Hale-South Chapel by Rev. Joshua Blevins, pastor.

Pallbearers will be Brad, Alan, Linda, Greg, Dexter and Braydon Carter.

The family will be at the home of Alan Carter.

Memorials may be made to Jefferson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, Volunteer Coordinator, 1600 W. 42nd Ave., Pine Bluff, AR 71603 or Shannon Road Baptist Church, 6817 Shannon Road, Pine Bluff, AR 71603.
