Obituary for Raymond Johnson

Raymond G. Johnson, age 80, of Pine Bluff, passed away January 28, 2022. He was born February 11, 1941 at Hermitage, Arkansas. Ray was son of the late Raymond and Opal Johnson.

He married Carol Brickey on December 3, 1971. Their union was blessed by six children. He was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on April 25, 1980. Ray was ordained an Elder on Aug 7, 1982. He found great joy in studying the Word of God and seeing the brethren live the faith.

Ray's life was a living example of what being an ambassador for Christ looks like. As Apostle Paul said, "And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you," Ray gave his all to his family and brethren. His life was filled with nameless acts of kindness and love to not only his wife, children, and grandchildren, but to so many others who looked to him for leadership and support.

Philippians says to, "in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves." Though Ray was abundantly blessed with wisdom and knowledge, he gave sincere reverence to others and valued their thoughts, feelings, and needs above his own. Ray was a greatly loved elder, husband, father, and grandfather whose presence will continue to be felt in the many people he touched during his life.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his grandson, Bentley Johnson Brown.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Carol Johnson; brothers James and wife Lorene, Acie and wife Beverly; children, Mike Johnson and wife Ann, Eva Barnes and husband Will, Todd Johnson, Tonya Johnson, Susan Fisher, and Terri Brown and husband Travis; grandchildren, Chasity, Cody, Katie, Shelby, Sidney, Savannah, Spencer, Joseph, JonMichael, Acie, Brittany, EvaMarie, Olivia, Reese, and Annaliese; 20 great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

Mr. Johnson’s funeral will be held Thursday, February 3, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Firstborn. Interment will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
