Obituary

Mildred Georgene Wright Sloate left this world on April 6, 2021 at her home in Brinkley, AR.

She was born on January 26, 1942 at DeWitt to the late Shelton and Pearl Flemings Wright. She was raised in the DeWitt area where she grew into adulthood. On January 10, 1956 she was baptized by Brother Bob Whitman into the Church of the Firstborn at DeWitt.

On September 6, 1968, she married the love of her life, Loyal Sloate. They made their home in DeWitt and were blessed with two sons, Darren and Lamar. On May 1, 1996, Loyal and Georgene left DeWitt and moved to the Hunter/Brinkley area to answer the calling of God. It was here on October 1, 2001 that Loyal’s work on earth was done and God called him home. Georgene was lost without Loyal, but understood that God had a plan. She remained in the Brinkley area until her death.

Throughout her life, starting with her nieces and nephews, Georgene enjoyed babysitting and taking care of children. She cherished each and everyone and became “An’ee” to most. She also enjoyed sewing for many of her nieces and young girls enjoyed dresses made by her. She sewed many times without patterns, just simply going by what she knew or some patterns using old clothes that she had taken apart. She even made her own wedding dress. Living life, her family, and her friends were her joys and blessings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandsons, Rance and Braxton Sloate; three brothers, Dewey Wright, Leroy Wright, and Ulyess Wright; and four sisters, Luthelma Wright, Eunice Mannis, Jowanda Wright, and Youlonda King.

Georgene leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons, Darren Sloate of Brinkley, and Lamar Sloate and wife Jacole of Pine Bluff; two grandsons, Kortlan and Camden Sloate of Pine Bluff; and three sisters, Evon Mannis and Sarah Keaton, both of DeWitt and Florene Whaley of Springdale. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, close friends, other family members as well as the many children she cared for throughout the years.

Visitation for Georgene will be held Thursday, April 8, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 at the Church of the Firstborn at Hunter. Graveside services will be Friday, April 9, 2021, 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Cemetery at DeWitt by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services of Pine Bluff.

Sister Georgene held a special place in my heart. She lead by example. My heart saddens that she is no longer with us here but she has gained her heavenly home. I am thankful to have had her in my life. i will miss you.
