Billy Wayne Cheek, 81, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, December 28, 2019.
He was born February 16, 1938 in Oak Grove, Louisiana, son of Louis Chain Cheek and Odis “Big Mamaw” Porter Cheek.
Billy was reared and received his early education in Louisiana, graduating from Collinston High School.
He served in the Louisiana National Guard.
Billy began working for International Paper in Bastrop, Louisiana in 1961. He transferred to Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1980 and retired after nearly 40 years of service in 1998 as a maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the International Paper Quarter Century Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, passing along his love of the outdoors to his family. Billy also loved classic country music.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Stella Barba Cheek; his parents; six siblings, JP Cheek, Basil Cheek, Alta Mae Bostick, Pearline Jinks, Pearl Greenwood and Nellie Dean; grandchild, Britton Cheek; and great-grandchild, Lexie Guthrie.
Survivors include five children, Kenneth Cheek of Sheridan, Arkansas, Cheryl Woodruff of Benton, Arkansas, Debbie Holcomb and her husband, Ellis, of Star City, Arkansas, Terri Garrison and her husband, Jimmy, of Marion, Arkansas and Louis Cheek of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Shiloh.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2020 at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana with Reverend Carl Wilson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Andrew Estess, Justin Cheek, Nicholas Cheek, Robert Guthrie, Joshua Holcomb and Timmy Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, Melanie Connell, Katie Guthrie, Charla Woodruff, Jocelyn Harp, Jessica Cheek, Brianne Cheek, Brooke Holcomb and Jennie Holcomb .
